Hand decorated with abstract vines and leaves in brown, charcoal gray, and dark blue on a pale celadon green ground. Hand inscribed with the artist's signature.

Stands at 7" high x 7.5" diameter (at widest point).

In EXCELLENT - MINT condition with no cracks, chips, crazing, or issues of note. Note that there are some surface "bumps" that occurred during firing on the interior. See photos for details.

Francis Joseph von Tury (1901 - 1992) was a fourth generation Hungarian potter. After emigrating to the US in 1929 he invented a unique "single firing" process for porcelain which is now the standard. Equally renowned for his talent as an artisan - his work initially gained fame at the 1935 and 1939 World Fairs. Throughout the balance of his lengthy career "Joe" maintained an atelier studio. While consulting with porcelain manufacturers worldwide. Along with creating bodies of work for partners such as Georg Jensen. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Smithsonian Institute.
