This is an Exceptionally Nice Antique American Stoneware Pancake Batter Jug. Circa Late 19th Century. It has No Maker or Other Markings. Liquid Capacity Size Appears to be Approx. 2 to 3 Quarts. It is Rendered in the Classic Coffee Brown "Albany Slip" Style Glossy Glaze that was Indigenous to the Up State New York Region. The Original Heavy Gauge Steel Wire and Lathe Turned Wood Carry Handle has Very Unusual Molded Clam Shell Mounts. Note! That also that it Still Retains its Original Hand Made Tin Top Lid and Spout Cover. It is in Very Nice Overall Original Condition - Displays Beautifully. It has No Cracks - No Repairs - Is Perfectly Functional. It has a Very Small Chip on the Tip of the Pour Spout and a Few Very Small Chips around the Inner Perimeter of the Top Rim most likely From Spoon Stirring. One of the Clam Shell Handle Brackets has a Chip but it is still Strong - Sound - Functional.
I purchased this piece on one of my recent Antique Picking Adventures in Up State New York - Finger Lakes Region.
It The Jug Itself Measures 8 1/4 inches Tall ( Not Including Handle ) x 8 1/2 inches Long x 7 1/2 inches Wide. It Measures 11 Inches Tall Overall with the Carry Handle in the Upright Position.
