This chair was produced in very … Read more Stunning and important "Manta Ray" easy chair from 1956 by Danish Designer Arne Hovmand-Olsen. This chair was produced in very limited numbers at cabinetmaker "Pedersen & Knap", Copenhagen in the mid 1950s and has not been in production since. The legs are made from solid Bangkok Teakwood and the frame has been reupholstered in Denmark by a Master upholsterer in white "Sunniva" fabric by Raf Simons for "Kvadrat". The chairs organic features is majestic and sculptural and at the same time it is very comfortable and cozy. The chair is featured and documented in the 1956 edition of the international design magazine "Mobilia".

Arne Hovmand-Olsen had the world in mind, both before and after the 1950s, when he became one of Denmark’s renowned furniture designers. The son of a farmer and an aesthete by nature, he started as an apprentice cabinetmaker, before studying furniture design and pursuing his passion for visual composition and furniture design. In 1944, Arne Hovmand-Olsen opened his own design practice, where he united the details of classic craftsmanship with innovative, modern design. He was a pioneer, not only in the field of architecture, but also in the field of exporting designer furniture to accommodate the large interest abroad.

Refinished. Reupholstered. The chair has been completely refinished and checked by a Danish cabinetmaker. The inside upholstery of the chair has been renewed and it has been reupholstered and hand sewn in Denmark. The condition of the chair is excellent. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
