This is just a great original piece. I recently acquired a small collection of original Harold Tovish lithographs. They came from the estate of an artist that was friends with Tovish. They all seem incredibly rare as the only place I can find another example of this one and another one is on the website of the Museum of Modern Art. For those not familiar with Tovish, I have included his biography below. All of these lithographs are done in an edition of 15 and each one is the number one print of the edition. This is one of a pair of Motion Sequence that the artist did. One in white on black and the other black on white. This is the black on white example. Image measures 17 5/8 x 24 inches on sheet measuring 22 x 29 3/4 inches. Signed, dated, titled, and numbered in pencil below the image. There is a blindstamp lower left in the margin that is from the Terry Dintenfass gallery in Boston. Two other blind stamps lower right as well. Print is in perfect as printed condition. Margins and edges show some very minor handling creases and a few edge bumps but otherwise a stunning example of this scarce print by important artist. Do your own research on the print and see if you can find any others. Print is stored in a tube and will be shipped that way. If you collect or would like to collect Tovish's works make sure you check my store for the other prints I am offering.
For those not familiar with Tovish, his biography from the deCordova Museum reads: "Tovish, born in New York, NY in 1921, graduated from Columbia University in 1943. After traveling to Paris and Florence to study sculpture and drawing, Tovish settled with his wife and sculptor Marianna Pineda in Boston in 1957. Before his tenure at Boston University (1971-84), Tovish taught at the School at the Museum of Fine Arts and was a fellow at the Center for Advanced Visual Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1967, Tovish exhibited at the 28th Venice Biennial, Carnegie Institute International, Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, amongst other prominent national institutions. In 1953 and 1988, respectively, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, MI and the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover, MA hosted solo exhibitions of Tovish’s work."
