A set of four brass metal figurines from the Ramayana: the hero, Rama; the heroine, Sita; the brother Lakshmana and the ally, Rama's faithful monkey lieutenant Hanuman in Chola style.
The Epic of Ramayana recounts the struggle of Prince Rama to defeat a powerful demonic king, rescue his abducted wife and reestablish order in the world. This epic story has been a centerpiece for pop culture, visual and preforming arts, literature and religious thought in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia for many centuries.
Hand made out of brass using the "lost-wax" technique. This is the complete set of 4 figurines that depicts the 'vanavasa' of Rama in the Ramayana.
The figures are of Lord Rama, Lakshmana, Sita and Hanuman.
Dramatic and striking.
Vishnu is regarded as the "preserver" of the world who has come down to earth (avatars) ten times to defeat the forces of evil.
It is as Rama, Vishnu's seventh avatar, that Vishnu is especially looked up to as the perfect 'Avatar'. The most popular symbol of chivalry and virtue, Rama is considered "the embodiment of truth, of morality, the ideal son, the ideal husband, and above all, the ideal king."
Rama is represented as a standing figure, with an arrow in his right hand, a bow in his left and a quiver on his back. Rama is also accompanied by his wife Sita, brother Lakshmana, and the legendary monkey attendant Hanuman.
In these 4 statues, the artist shows:
* Rama, Lakshmana, Sita & Hanuman are depicted in realistic human form.
* Rama & Lakshmana in their classic standing pose with arrows in their right hands, bow in left hands and a quiver on their backs. Hanuman is in a kneeling position, ready to serve. Rama's gaze is serene and reassuring.
All the figurines are adorned with jewels, including hanging earrings, hair ornaments, a thick necklace, armbands and bracelets.
