A gorgeous mid-century Chinese tapestry scroll on silk, after T’ang Yin (1470-1523) with the original box and literature. The tapestry includes a poem by the artist, followed by his signature and seals.
This incredible tapestry depicts “a fair courtesan of Yanchow, named Li Tuan-Tuan, who went to a certain poet in the city, to seek some words of praise. She was given a few lines of verse in which she was called ‘a walking peony.’ This metaphor made her famous. The picture shows the poet seated on a couch, Li Tuan-Tuan just arriving with a white peony in her hand, and a woman attendant holding a flower vase.”
The scroll is in good condition for its age, with minor wear marks. It is perfect for framing. The set includes the tapestry, original literature, and the original cardboard box.
The scroll is 14.25” W and 44” H. The tapestry within the scroll is approximately 11.5” W and 23.5” H. The box it fits in when rolled up is 2.75” W, 2.25” D, and 15.5” H.
