Gorgeous medium brown patina with convex dark wood-possibly … Read more Fantastic Civil War --or before?-- hand made powder horn with natural curve. Gorgeous medium brown patina with convex dark wood-possibly walnut-snugly fit base and tapered bottle nose for pouring. The base has three small holes which likely held a metal loop to attach the suspension cord. The cord would also be tied around the notched neck for easy underarm carry. The horn is translucent when held up to a light. There appears to be a signature on one side towards the base, as shown in the last picture under magnified light.

The horn is in excellent shape given its age and use. It is missing the plug. there are a few scruffs and nicks consistent with age, and there is one small pin hole on one side, as shown in the pictures. Overall, it is very smooth to the touch, graceful and a wonderful piece.

Measures 7 1/2" w x 1 3/4" round at the base. See less
