The lion was once painted, but now almost all of the pain is gone, there is some minor paint left throughout the lion. Please see the photographs. The lion looks like it was well used, but still has many more years left. less

A antique child size riding carousel lion. I believe this lion is "Stander" style carousel lion, meaning the lion has three paws touching the ground with one paw in the air.
The following are indicator's of a original carousel animal. The lion is hollow in the center, (this can be seen in photograph numbers 4, 8, 10). The ears are flat against the lion, the mouth and teeth do not have rough carvings. The carving on the lion's mane is free flowing and has a natural look (new carvings are very structured and have a V shape). There is a pole hole in the center of the lion (the hole in the center of the lion for a riding pole). The eyes are nicely carved into the wood, and make the lion look more real. Finally the tail is not removable, and the tip of the tail has shorter carving strokes, (opposed to single long carvings of new tails). All of this leads to the indicators of the age and authenticity of the lion.
I am more than willing to update the photos and I can provide more photos if you would like a certain photo of the lion.
