This important antique fruitwood commode was crafted in Nimes, Southern France circa 1750. The bombe chest on all sides, stands on cabriole legs decorated with acanthus leaves at the shoulder, and ending with escargot feet. The elegant scalloped and pierced apron is decorated with hand carved foliage motifs, embellished with a large shell in the center. The cabinet features a serpentine and bowed moulded front with two drawers, and dressed with the original intricate bronze pulls and matching escutcheons. The surface is topped with a solid walnut embellished with Dupont edge.The cabinet is in museum quality condition and adorns a rich and deep walnut patina. Place this exceptional and rare chest of drawers in an entry, living room or master bedroom for the ultimate Country French look! Original papers on provenance and condition included. The chest was bought in Provence in 1998 for 145,000 French Francs (about $25,000)
