Death and the Lumberjack is an original artwork realized by Alphonse Legros (1837-1911) in 1876. The original work is contained in a cream colored cardboard passepartout (50x35 cm). Good conditions apart some little tear along the low edge of the original work. Hand-signed by the author in the lower right corner of the artwork. Alphonse Legros (Dijon, 1837 - Watford, 1911) was a French-British painter, engraver and sculptor. At the end of the Victorian era Legros left a strong mark on the history of drawing in England, and has particularly distinguished himself as a lecturer at University College London. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
