This antique Meiji Era (1868 - 1912) Japanese lacquer box has a hand-painted floral design on the top and a unique original bird artwork piece on paper applied inside the box lid. The artist's signature can be found inside the interior box bottom as shown in the listing photographs. The old vintage box has metal hinges and a latch closure.
The antique lacquer box would make a beautiful decor on an office decor of living room side table.
Dating from the late 19th century and most likely used to store calligraphy supplies or documents, the decorative lacquer box shows wear with consistent with age and use including chipping to lacquer paint at the corners and edges.
