Naomi Lewis Policoff, painter and printmaker, was born in Woodbury, New Jersey on 28 November 1920. She grew up in Richmond, Virginia and lived for many years in Albany, New York; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Princeton, New Jersey. She was trained as a chemist and worked for DuPont. In the late 1960s, Policoff returned to school to study art and she earned her B.F.A. from the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts. In 1978, she moved with her husband, Dr. Leonard Policoff, to the San Francisco Bay Area and she then began focusing on printmaking, working with the Fort Mason Printmakers in San Francisco and becoming a member of the California Society of Printmakers. Her work was represented for my years by the ACCI Gallery in Berkeley. Prior to her move to California, she was a member of the Albany Artists Group from 1961 to 1963. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Rennaselaer Historical Society, New York; and the AT&T Long Lines HQ in Bedminster, New Jersey.
Naomi Lewis Policoff died in Alameda, California on 9 December 2020.
