Many of these early American design motifs carry over elements with European roots, yet focus greatly on the bounties of agriculture and floral beauty found in the Colonies. Many of the more popular designs carry continuous vines paneling off floral sprays and bouquets, some of which are shown to be tied with ribbons, while others are covered fields with interconnected vinery and highly detailed scrolling tendrils and leaves. Each example renders a quaint and simplistic focus on the beauty of blossoms and rhythmic qualities with alternating repetition and fluidity, paired with regularity of trellis or lattice style organization. Chainstitch is a weaving method that enables a great deal of detailing in patterns, and is especially so for weavings of curvilinear design. There is added dynamic imparted by the spiraling technique in the single colored areas which adds a subtle nuance to the shades of wool based on reflection of light. Colors and shades include: Black, ivory, celadon green, dusty jade green, blush, mauve, lavender, black cherry red, seafoam green, and more. Many years of enjoyment to come with this hand woven India Chainstitch carpet made in Indian circa 1980's vintage. See less

Original side cord selvages intact. Fully secured sides and ends. These rugs have a high quality cotton canvas backing which is incrementally stitched to the perimeter. Due to these merchandise being new old stock, which have been in storage for over twenty years, you may find some imperfections, this may include minor separation easily mended of the canvas to the rug. Scuffs and minor stains may be found to the reverse of the carpet, which do not translate to the front. The backing is not structural in any significant way other than to add weight to the weaving. This type is not recommended for homes with pets who have a tendency to scratch furniture. Recently professionally cleaned ready for in-home use! less
