A lovely painted and glazed terracotta bust of a young man, in this case the son of the artist, sculpted by renown French sculptor Maurice Vaury (1878 - 1965), who was commissioned by the French government to design and sculpt around a dozen national monuments, primarily honoring fallen war heroes and World War I victims.
This sculpture displays an unusual softness, playfulness and sweetness uncharacteristic of the artist. It should come as no surprise it is a sculpture of his son.
On the front of the base is an etching of a boy with bow and arrow.
Acquired from a private collection outside Clermont-Ferrand, France.
