Up for sale are two pairs of well potted and finely glazed small Chinese teadust/Chayemo (茶叶末釉) stoneware bottle vases (Tianqiuping … Read more Up for sale are two pairs of well potted and finely glazed small Chinese teadust/Chayemo (茶叶末釉) stoneware bottle vases (Tianqiuping 天球瓶 and Yaolingzun 摇铃尊), also glazed on interior walls but no glaze on the foot rims, early to mid 20th century, Jingdezhen Ware; all vases are in good condition with light shelf wear; minor glaze irregularities and inclusions. These types of small vases were traditionally displayed on scholar's desks or shelves for decoration or holding flowers. They were also popularly used as "pure water" bottles for prayer.

*Teadust (Chayemo) glaze is an olive-colored glaze, high-fired green speckled glaze. A 'teadust' glaze first occurred at kilns in Shaanxi and Henan during the Tang dynasty. Teadust glazes were used on a multitude of pottery even in the Ming dynasty and on provincial wares during the Qing as well. In the Yongzheng period during the Qing dynasty 'teadust' glaze was revived and developed in Jingdezhen for use on imperial wares, probably in an imitation of bronze. It appears as if the teadust effect results from an iron rich glaze being allowed to cool down slowly, which leads to iron - 'oil' - spots poling on the surface. See less
