Tutankhamun lamp Vittorio Sabadin for Capodimonte Porcelain, gilt & hand painted, 1980`s ca, Italy.
This vintage table lamp has been gently cleaned while respecting the age patina. It is newly rewired & earthed, PAT tested by an electrician and ready to use. It has the following new electrical components: new brass lamp holder & brass cover, antique gold tone silk cable, new black cord switch & a new black plug (UK Plug up to 250V). This lamp can used with a dimmer. It is possible to use this light in other countries with a light bulb suitable to local electricity.
This Egyptian style lamp became popular and was produced in Europe from the late 1960`s, after the King Tutankhamun exhibitions in Paris, France in 1967, and Brussels, Belgium in 1970. In the north of Italy, prestigious porcelain & ceramic manufacturers such as S.V. Porcellane d`Arte di Sabadin Vittorio, Ronzan and Ahura made similar examples.
Although not signed, the lamp base is stamped on the back: `MADE IN ITALY`. This lamp has many of the quality design features of the Capodimonte Porcelain Pharaoh Tutankhamun figures of Vittorio Sabadin, the attributed designer & manufacturer.
Iconic and elegant this lamp would be a sculptural addition to a range of Interiors including Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, 70`s Glamour, Post-Modern or Contemporary.
At the focal point is a porcelain base depicting Tutankhamun's death mask.
The figure is quality cast with great attention to detail. Superbly hand painted & gilded, this lamp is unique with real 24k gold as the main base tone. Accents of colour can be found on the Nemes headdress (cobalt blue), face (cobalt blue & black), beard (white) & collar (black, light blue, coral & light green).
The iconic cobra Uraeus & vulture are present.
The lamp is continuously gilded & decorated all round including the back, with accents of cobalt blue and hieroglyphics symbols stamped, together with the `MADE IN ITALY` mark .
Rising from the top of the head there is a short polished brass column leading to the new brass lamp holder. This is inside a polished brass cover. The lamp holder has 2 brass screw rings to hold the lampshade in place.
This lamp carry 1 standard small screw light bulb (E14) up to 60 Watts. At present fitted & photographed with a Golf Clear shaped light bulb of 25 Watts. This is included in the price. It is possible to use any other E14 bulbs.
The lamp has been newly rewired with new materials. It has a new brass lamp holder & cover, gold tone silk cable, new black cord switch, and a new black plug (UK Plug up to 250V).
The vintage handmade Pagoda shade is present and included in the price. The shade has a great quality metal frame with two arches open, one frontal and the other at the back, emphasizing the view & beauty of the mask. It is made of silk fabric in ivory with a triple fabric trim around the top & bottom in blue, gold & white. It is further lined in beige fabric.
Underneath the lamp base is padded with new black felt to protect the furniture below.
This vintage table lamp is in very good condition. The porcelain sculpture is in very good condition with no cracks or chips. The gilt & painted surfaces are in very good condition, with a light age patina & minor tiny superficial marks to the gilt in line with age & wear. The vintage lampshade is in very good condition. The metal frame is sound. The fabric is in good condition with no damages, cuts or stains, just a couple of very tiny dots & some rubbing as expected for the age.
