Excellent Pre-Owned Condition.
Head-turning, heavy mould-blown glass ashtray designed by Tamara Aladin for the Taalari Collection which was introduced in 1966 by Riihimäki Glassworks (renamed Riihimaen Lasi Oy in 1937). The most prolific of the three female designers that dominated Riihimäki’s vast output during the 1960s and 1970s was Tamara Aladin, who joined the company in 1959. The Taalari series, produced from 1966 to 1983, included an ashtray, serving bowl, dessert bowl, vase and candle holder in a range of colors such as this ashtray which trends violet blue. The other colors offered were green, yellow, clear and amber. This beauty weighs 2 lbs. 4 oz. and measures 4½” x 4½” x 2¾” W/D/H. In excellent condition with an inclusion in one of the corners underneath the base that is inherent in any glassware and original to the manufacturer (indiscernible see photo 7). With its bold Greek key design and art glass profile, this mid-century beauty will be a fabulous accent piece or catchall on any modern tabletop!
