This is a set of 3 matted original botanical chromolithographs of forest trees that date to the 1860's! The prints have a wonderful quality and are rich in tone and texture. They feature forest trees: the beech tree, the pine tree, and the hazelnut tree and each has its specific anatomical details. These images came from the rare French Atlas d’Histoire Naturelle Botanique published in Paris in the mid 1860’s and illustrated by the famed German naturalist, G H Schubert. This was an historical reference book with letter notations corresponding to documentation. We were fortunate to “happen” upon this book in Paris and have since learned that this book can no longer be found, even in rare book dealers’ collections. These are a RARE, RARE find. Please note the illustrative work of the drawings. The clarity, detail and nuance of green and brown coloring render them special. These images make great room decor. They are in excellent antique condition for images with this history. Each measures 7 x 10.5 inches. Each comes custom matted in a neutral tone 16 x 20 inch mat ready for a standard size frame.
