Chinese porcelain Da Ya Zhai dragon Hu vase, imperial yellow glaze with fine pattern iron wire craquelure on the body and extended foot, the red Da Ya Zhai mark and red Tian Di Yi Jia Chun cartouche is glazed just below the neck. A turquoise glaze with fine pattern iron wire craquelure is on the lip, throat and inset base. The interior of the vase is unglazed. Four finely drawn dragons in burnt umber, sepia and gold glazes amid the white glazed five herbal flowers with gilt highlights decorate the body. A four character red Yong Qing Chan Chun reign mark on white is glazed to the inset base. Circa early 20th century no later than mid century.
5 Chinese herbals: chrysanthemum flower (ju hua), campuses flower (ling Xiao hua), celosia flower (ji guan hua), safflower (hong hua), and, the much beloved, rose bud (mei gui hua).
The mark Dayazhai (Studio of the Greater Odes) has been associated with the Dowager Empress Cixi.
