There’s just something about blue-and-white porcelain ware that makes an elegant bold statement and above all, seems to work with any style. These cuties were given to me over a period of time, in sets. Of the five, three are part of a set and the other two are disparate bowls but they all complement each other beautifully. I’ve used them as prep and condiment bowls but are typically classified as rice bowls. As to age, I believe they were made sometime in the 1970s to early 1980s. There are two differing marks under two of the bowls, probably the regional kiln where they were made in Japan, while the other three are blank. Color is crisp white and cobalt; each bowl has its own unique motif. There are four that measure 4½” x 2¼” D/H, while the other measures 4½” x 2” D/H. All together they weigh 1 lb. 7 oz. In excellent condition with minimal use wear. There is one minuscule chip under the base of one that is not very noticeable (see photo 7). These fabulous Sometsuke beauties are a must have in the kitchen or perhaps new homes for your succulents!
