B.C. Nowlin
1949-
Bruce Nowlin was born in Alameda, New Mexico of Osage-Irish descent, and growing up near the Sandia Indian Reservation gave him an intimate understanding of Native American culture.
A self-taught artist Nowlin has published editions in etchings, serigraphs, monotypes, and lithographs. He doesn t use either photographs or preparatory sketches for his paintings. He begins in a flurry of abstracted shapes and primary colors, and then refines and focuses through wet-on-wet overpainting.
Nowlin s work is found in collections in the U.S. and Japan.
