Original woodcut from the series "Genji kumo ukiyoe awase" (The transient world compared to the cloudy chapters of the Genji novel), chapter Kobai. Keyamura Rokusuke standing visibly in a rage, the delicate O-Sono sitting behind him holding a flowering plum tree branch (Kobai), scene in the play Hikosan Gongen Chikai no Sukedachi. Signed in plate. Publisher: Iseya Ichibei. Censorship: Murata. Good impression with blindstamping (nose bone), slightly faded, restored wormholes at right margin, lower margin slightly creased and soiled. Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798 – 1861) was one of the last great masters of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and painting. He was a member of the Utagawa school. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
