The lovers Osome and Hisamatsu on the run at night, the roles played by Ichikawa Danjuro and Bando Shuka, behind them the silhouette of the temple. Signed: Toyokuni ga. Publisher: Minatoya Kohei. Censorship by Muramatsu and Fukushima. Excellent blue print with blind printing (nasal bone), margin trimmed (h. 35.5 cm) and faded at upper and lower margin, backed fold at left side, a little bit rubbed and soiled. Utagawa Kunisada, also known as Utagawa Toyokuni III (1786 - 1865) was one of the most famous designers of Ukiyo-e woodblock prints from Japan in the 19th century. Burn Sumita Syogoro, at the age of 15-16 years became a part of the Utagawa Toyokuni's family and in 1844 he took the male of the master Toyokuni. See less
