This is an antique, mid-19th century, Victorian era, bas-relief and cobalt underglazed, lidded porcelain urn from Germany. It is of the capodimonte style.
Bas-relief is where the figures project slightly from the background and it is also called low-relief. Underglazes are used in pottery to create designs and patterns that come up through the glaze covering them. This can give the surface more visual depth and character.
The detail in this lidded vase is amazing. I love the face handles and figures. This dramatic vase stands 20” tall which is such a statement when used as décor. It measures 8” in diameter and the width from handle to handle is 11”
