Portfolio "Picasso from 1916 to 1961" - Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso Edition du Rocher 1962 Copy given to the author H39xW29cm Signed by Picasso and Jean Cocteau Original lithographs by Pablo Picasso reproducing his major works between 1916 and 1961 and produced by Jean Cocteau on the occasion of Picasso's 80th birthday. In-folio, 40 lithographs on loose-leaf including 22 original lithographs by Picasso, 6 of which are full-page and 2 double-page. In good condition. Housed in the original vellum-backed portfolio with gilt titles to the spine and original slipcase. Picasso and Cocteau met in 1916 towards the end of the First World War at the height of Picasso's period of synthetic cubism. The period marked the first use of collage in the history of fine art and the series depicts highly geometric and minimalist cubist objects, mainly pipes, guitars and spectacles. Picasso and Cocteau would later collaborate on several projects, including the present volume which offers a comprehensive collection of Picasso's various periods, from Cubism to Picasso's later years. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
