Piranesi, veduta del porto di ripa grande (view of the port of ripa grande) etching, burin and drypoint on fine watermarked paper (with lily watermarked). Signed on plate lower-right: “g.b. Piranesi architetto fec.”. 2nd state/ vi (hind 27) image dim: cm 38.2 x 61.5, dim: 53.3 x 77.3. Good conditions, with some normal fold of paper at the center from one of the most important series of etchings by g.b. Piranesi, ”views of rome drawn and etched by giambattista piranesi, venetian architect” (1753) this wonderful artist’s proof with wide margins, representing the port of ripa grande at the middle of xviii century. With an interesting and detailed capture (on plate) pointing out the ruins of antique monouments and buildings. Background: in 1740 giovanni battista piranesi arrived in rome for the first time and he was astonished by the eternal city’s beauty. He served an apprenticeship before with the valeriani’s workshop, and after with giuseppe vasi’s one. The sicilian engraver and vedutist teached him the etching technique, conveying his graphic art’s passion to the venetian old master. Ref: a.
