Hand signed in pencil on the lower left margin; ''Dans les rizières M.Campigli 1958'' is written on the lower right margin. Very good conditions. Dans les rizières (In the rice fields) is an artwork realized by Campigli during his stand in France in 1958. It represents some female figures. The composition shows some human bodies standing in a paddy. Each body is accompanied by its specular glare in a fascinating play of light and dark. Massimo Campigli (Berlino, 1895 - Saint-Tropez, 1971) was an Italian painter. In 1921, he participated in the Salon d'Automne with the painting ''L'arrotino''. In 1922, Leonce Rosenberg, a famous Parisian merchant and dealer, bought some artworks of the artist. In 1926, Campigli exhibited at the ''First exhibition of Novecento'' in Milan. In 1927, he could live with his paintings: he exhibited in Paris, Zurich, Dresda and Amsterdam. He took inspiration from Etruscan art for his artworks. In 1961, an important monograph was published in Paris, its name was ''Les idoles de Campigli'' by Andrè Chastel; some years later he was appointed Academician of San Luca. Campigli served as a foreign correspondent in Paris in 1919 before joining the “Paris Italians” artist group that also included the artists Gino Severini and Giorgio de Chirico.
