Monogram and Date on plate on lower right corner. This original print is from the portfolio ''Fünf radierungen von Hans Thoma'' published by Schster and Loeffler, Berlin and Leipzig, in 1900. In very good conditions, with a light yellowing of the paper visible under the cream-colored cardboard passepartout included. This wonderful modern artwork representing a woman portrait with a big hat and the hair blowing in the wind of a luxuriant field, is represented with incredible modulations of line and blacks. It seems to be with her in the country enjoying the fresh wind and the sun and it is evident we are in front of a German painter born in the Black Forest with an innate love of Nature. Hans Thoma (Bernau, 1839 –Karlsruhe 1924) Hans Thoma started as a painter of clock faces, entering in 1859 in the Karlsruhe academy under Johann Wilhelm Schirmer and Ludwig des Coudres. He moved to Düsseldorf, Paris, Italy, Munich and Frankfurt, until his reputation became firmly established with a solo-exhibition of his paintings in Munich. He was influenced by the early German masters as Albrecht Altdorfer and Lucas Cranach the Elder. In his love of the details of nature, in his precise drawing of outline, and in his predilection for local coloring, he surely has affinities with the Pre-Raphaelites painters. Thoma also produced various lithographs and pen drawings, but he is remembered thanks to some decorative mural paintings in a café at Frankfurt, and in the music room of the Alfred Pringsheim house in Munich.
