This is a Last State and presents the inscription on the lower right of the matrix “God et Rops sculps”. Outside the matrix, on the lower left, there is a small stamp containing the monogram “JB”. The state of preservation is very good, except for some small tears on the right margin. This original print represents a series of sketches with various subjects, some of which are ironic and erotic. Felicien Rops was born in Namur in 1833 and attended the University of Brussels. The Belgian artist achieved great fame in a small amount of time as a caricaturist. Rops was influenced by the artistic movements of Symbolism and Decadentism. For this reason, his artworks usually combine sex, death and satanic images all together. He died in 1898. This is a rare and peculiar print realized by a singular artist: a unique work and an ensemble of different works at the same time. This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died requires a licence for export regardless of the work’s market price. The shipping may require additional handling days to require the licence according to the final destination of the artwork. See less
