Antiche urne cinerarie e lampade'' is an artist proof, printed on contemporary laid paper, large margins, representing antique marble cinerary urns - “found into antique graves in siena”- and lamps with lower printed note. This etching is dedicated “to sir. Francesco dickins, english cavaliere and patron of fine arts, as a mark of profound respect, cavaliere gio. Batta piranesi d.d.d.“. Excellent condition, despite a browned paper and some foxing marks on margins. Signed on plate “cavalier piranesi f.” on the lower left. Image dimensions : 41 x 65 cm undoubtedly piranesi was one of the most important engravers in 18th century even if he was well-known as an architect and an archaeologist: the greatest engraver in the period from rembrandt a goya.
