On one side, three cranes stand among sweeping fronds in muted sage and ivory, set against a mottled ground of ochre, bronze, and rust. On the reverse, slender gold-toned bamboo stalks and leaves arc across a black lacquered ground, with open space around the stems emphasizing their graceful lines.

Brass-tone hinges connect the four panels, allowing the screen to stand at varying angles. Light wear along the edges and corners adds to its vintage character. Decorated on both sides, the screen works especially well as a freestanding room divider, where the crane scene and the bamboo motif can be appreciated from opposite sides of the room. See less
