Crafted in the 1960s or 1970s, this hand-modeled stoneware figure features an organic, deeply incised bark-like texture across its rounded body. The walrus's expressive face is adorned with multi-layered, fan-shaped whiskers accented in a subtle green-toned glaze, contrasting beautifully with its prominent, smoothly glazed long white tusks.
The artist's signature, "Hal Fromhold," is deeply inscribed by hand into the coarse clay along the lower rim of the base. Known for his brutalist-inspired yet playfully endearing animal and figural forms, Fromhold earned degrees from USC and Ohio State, establishing a highly collectible presence within the Mid-Century California craft movement. This exceptionally charming coastal wildlife piece makes a striking accent for organic modern, brutalist, or eclectic coastal interiors. See less
