Melancholy is a vintage offset print realized after a 1978 drawing by the Sicilian artist Renato Guttuso. Signed on plate. Good conditions. Renato Guttuso (Bagheria, Palermo 1912 - Rome,1987) was a famous Italian painter of the 20th century. He was born in a small town in Sicily, started painting when he was only 13. In 1938, he had his first solo exhibition in Rome. He founded the artistic movement "Fronte nuovo delle Arti" in 1947. After the war, he continued painting in his most realistic style, referring to contemporary political themes. Beginning in 1950, Guttuso took part in the Venice Biennale many times and he held numerous solo shows in many museums and galleries in both Europe and America. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
