This hand-crafted stoneware platter features a bold, stylized fish rendered in creamy white against a beautifully mottled blue glazed background, with a contrasting reddish-brown eye. The rectangular slab-built form has clipped corners and a shallow raised rim, combining playful, abstract imagery with the clean lines of mid-century modern design.

Eric Norstad was an influential American studio potter and architect who studied ceramics and architecture at the University of Oregon. In 1957, he received a prestigious Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation grant, which helped establish his pottery studio. He founded Norstad Pottery in Northern California in 1962, becoming particularly recognized for his functional stoneware, architectural ceramics, and distinctive decorative techniques. His work is represented in the permanent collections of the Oakland Museum of California and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.

An excellent example of California mid-century studio pottery, equally appealing as a functional serving platter or a decorative work of ceramic art.
