The lustrous, jet-black surface provides a striking background for the fine hand-painted enamelwork, characteristic of Bohemian decorative glass from the late nineteenth century. Each vase displays circular polychrome medallions painted on opposing sides with lively garden flower arrangements, including roses, wild daisies, and assorted blossoms set against soft pale blue backgrounds. These floral panels are framed by ornate gilded borders with scrolling flourishes across the shoulders and delicate dot-and-line gilt bands encircling the neck rings. The pair is attributed to Moser of Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad), Bohemia, dating to around 1880. Moser became renowned during this era for exceptional cold-work decoration and vivid raised enamelling applied to dense hyalith-style black and deep-coloured blanks. Hand-applied painted numbers appear on the ground pontil bases, with one marked 'IV.' and the other '1.'. Each vase stands 14 cm high. The glass bodies remain intact without chips or cracks, and the painted floral enamels retain rich colour and fine detail. Light surface wear and rubbing are evident across the gilded rims and lower collar bands, consistent with careful handling over time. See less
