Each half features a pediment top, an arched opening, and a fluted column resting on a stepped plinth. When placed side by side, the two sections unite to create the complete entrance facade of an ancient temple or civic building. The pieces are cast in solid yellow jasperware, characterised by an unglazed, smooth matte exterior. Applied ornaments in contrasting black jasper relief accent key architectural elements. Elaborate scrolling foliate sprigs sit within the pediment, accompanied by central star rosettes on the arch spandrels. The outer flanks present moulded recessed panels mounted with prominent lion mask medallions holding rings, while a continuous frieze of scrolling anthemion foliage runs around the lower plinth. Produced in England by Wedgwood during the 1980s, the pair formed part of the firm's Library Collection. The undersides retain protective black felt lining with cut-out apertures revealing the impressed maker backstamp in the ceramic base.

Each bookend measures 19 cm in height and 14 cm in width. Both components remain sturdy and functional. A tiny shallow chip is present on one corner of each base, with light surface marks and minor shelf wear to the base edges, consistent with standard library use. See less
