The pouring lip is sculpted directly into a pharaoh's head wearing a traditional nemes headdress, while the geometric strap handle terminates at its lower mount in an outstretched winged scarab motif. The glaze palette combines rich treacle and warm honey tones, allowing the darker brown glaze to pool naturally around the recessed outlines while highlighting the raised figures against the buff-toned ground. The interior is finished in a smooth, lighter wash, while the exterior displays the subtle texture and durable satin lustre characteristic of Lambeth salt-glazed ware. Produced around 1889, the vessel reflects late Victorian archaeological fascination following excavations across Egypt. The design adapts tomb wall paintings and temple reliefs, translating two-dimensional narrative friezes into a compact, functional tabletop form. The base carries the impressed circular Doulton Lambeth mark alongside the British registered design number 121037, shape number 2547, and impressed craftsman initials. The jug stands 12 cm high with an overall length of 12 cm from spout tip to handle edge. The jug survives in very good antique condition, with clear relief detail throughout and free from chips, hairline cracks or restoration. See less
