The head is held upright with pricked ears, defined cheek bones, and an expressive muzzle accented by a clean white blaze. A sculpted flaxen mane falls naturally along the crested neck, matched by a full tail falling behind the hindquarters. Finished in a warm honey-gold palomino colourway, the high-gloss glaze highlights the modeled contours of the shoulder, flank, and ribcage. The pale mane and tail contrast against the body, while the lower legs transition into white stockings and softly defined hooves. Precise hand-painted touches define the dark eyes, nostrils, and subtle shading across the muzzle. Modelled by Arthur Gredington, Beswick’s principal animal sculptor noted for his anatomically accurate domestic livestock and equestrian figures, model number 1734 represents the largest hunter produced by the Staffordshire pottery. First introduced in the mid-20th century and produced here around 1970, this substantial slip-cast model required careful kiln balance to support its size and upright proportions. The underside of the belly bears the printed circular Beswick England mark beside an original firing hole. The figure stands 31 cm high to the tips of the ears and extends to an overall length of approximately 30 cm. See less
