Each baluster body is finished in a warm cream-toned crackle glaze, serving as the pale ground for a continuous rural landscape. The scenic painting depicts traditional thatched dwellings nestled beside pine trees, set against soft grey mountain silhouettes rendered in gentle watercolour washes. Contrasting russet maple trees dominate the composition, layered across the shoulder and trailing down the sides. Delicate raised enamels define the architectural elements and foliage, accented by extensive gold leaf highlights that catch the light across the leafy canopies and rolling hillsides. The decorative treatment wraps entirely around each piece, presenting an expansive outdoor vista from every angle. Both vases feature a flared circular rim gilded along the lip, leading to a tapered neck and rounded shoulder. A contrasting black band adorned with geometric gilt scrollwork rings the upper shoulder, echoed by a corresponding black and gold dotted band encircling the stepped foot rim. The interior of each neck reveals the natural pale earthenware body. Measuring 12.3 cm in height, these vases were likely produced between 1900 and 1940 for the Western export market. Each underside retains an impressed or painted Japanese workshop seal in a black cartouche with gilt lettering, alongside a remnant paper export label on one base, making them ideal cabinet pieces.
