Offered are antique Awaji pottery (bearing the name of the island they're from) covered bowls or lidded jars featuring a multi-color "egg and spinach" (or Sancai-style three-color) glaze in green, yellow, and brown
They are often associated with the Minpei-ware style and are typically dated from the late 19th century (Meiji era) to early 20th century (Taisho era). These are probably from the 1920s (they are each marked "Made in Japan"). The glaze is known as "egg and spinach" or tortoise-shell Sancai glaze, blending splashes of the tri-colored wet paint. They were originally used as custard cups or as salt cellars and are often collected as nesting or miniature accent pieces.
The larger one measures: 4" in diameter, 2.875" tall.
The smaller one measures: 3.125" in diameter, 2" tall.

There are visible flaws in their craftsmanship such as glazed air bubbles and nicks made during production. There are some minor chips on the underside of the smaller jar's lid that are not seen on the top surface. Any imperfections in their craftsmanship are innate, and any wear is commensurate with their age and past usage. less
