A rare and large early 20th century Belgium art pottery vase decorated with polychrome drip glaze. Belgium, circa 1930.
These were very popular near the turn of the century at Liberty of London's store on Regent Street. An important influence was the English Arts and Crafts movement, spearheaded by William Morris in the 1870s. During the time period, the idea that everyday, functional objects could be art was still pretty radical, and this vase shares this beautiful quality.
Approx 12" tall, 7.5" across at the handles, and 4.5" wide at the mouth. Has a few small flea bite chips on the rim and some scratches, all due to age. See photos.
Could be made in to a fabulous lamp as well!
