A thick-walled marble bowl in soft dove gray, its rim slightly faceted where the stone was shaped by hand, with a shallow well that dips smoothly inside. The surface has weathered to a chalky, velvety finish, with a faint pink-beige blush near the base, gentle clouding and the fine grain of old tool marks. This vintage marble bowl comes from Agra, in northern India, a city long known for its stone carving. The weight and worn edges carry the marks of years of handling.
At 11 inches long, 8 inches wide and 4 inches tall, it is small enough for a coffee table, nightstand, console or kitchen counter, and sturdy enough to hold keys, fruit, matches or a handful of dried blooms. The quiet gray reads as a neutral beside plaster, wood and linen.
