The ladder back has two broad slats, each with a scalloped lower edge that dips to a point at the centre. The turned back posts carry stacked ball turnings between the slats and finish in ball finials.

Flat, slightly curved arms run forward from the back posts to rounded ends, where the top of each front post shows as a small turned disc. Below the arms, the front posts swell into baluster turnings. Plain round stretchers join the legs at staggered heights, and the legs are slotted over long, gently curved rockers that extend well behind the chair.

The seat is woven from thick twisted seagrass in four triangular sections that meet at the centre. Its pale, ropy texture sits against the honey-brown oak, which shows a pronounced grain on the slats and a darker tone on the arms.

The turned posts and shaped slats suit rustic and country interiors and rooms furnished with antiques. The pairing of oak and seagrass also fits well in Organic Modern schemes. See less
