A beautiful example of late 19th-century Victorian craftsmanship, this antique adjustable piano or parlor organ stool dates to circa 1890–1900. Featuring an elegant spindle backrest, richly finished hardwood construction, and distinctive amber glass ball-and-claw feet, this exceptional piece combines period charm, intricate detailing, and practical functionality.
Elegant Victorian Design
The gracefully curved backrest features a beautifully scalloped and carved top rail supported by delicately turned wooden spindles. Its contoured circular wooden seat showcases a warm mahogany finish and a lovely aged patina that highlights the stool's antique character.
The seat incorporates a traditional cast-metal screw mechanism that swivels smoothly through 360 degrees, allowing the height to adjust approximately 5 inches, from 18 to 23 inches. This functional design makes the stool suitable for a variety of seating arrangements.
Distinctive Glass Ball-and-Claw Feet
One of the most striking features is its beautifully detailed base, supported by four elegantly turned and splayed wooden legs with decorative ribbed and ring-turned accents. An intersecting cross-stretcher provides additional strength and stability.
Each leg terminates in an ornate cast-metal claw foot gripping a translucent amber-toned glass sphere. These highly decorative ball-and-claw feet are a signature feature of fine Victorian furniture, creating a striking contrast against the rich mahogany tones.
Timeless Versatility
Originally designed for a piano or parlor organ, this charming antique is equally suited as a vanity chair, writing desk stool, decorative accent chair, or statement piece in a bedroom, entryway, or living room.
Its sculptural silhouette, adjustable height, and beautifully preserved details make it a wonderful addition to both traditional and eclectic interiors.
