Bring whimsical late-19th-century charm and playful Victorian allegory to your tabletop or vanity with this exquisite figural silver-plate toothpick holder by Royal Mfg. Co.
Masterfully crafted during the height of the Victorian aesthetic movement, this piece features a naturalistically detailed baby chick perched gracefully on one side of an elongated wishbone base. Beside the chick rests a vessel rendered as a soft, cracked eggshell complete with a delicate, crimped ruff rim and hand-chased foliage embellishments across the front.
In Victorian table etiquette, figural novelty pieces—especially those featuring chicks, eggs, and wishbones representing good fortune and new beginnings—were coveted conversation starters for formal dinner parties. Today, this charming vessel serves beautifully in its traditional role as a toothpick or cocktail pick holder, or repurposed as a delicate salt cellar, ring dish, or match striker for a curated modern home.
