It features a whimsical elf or gnome in a vibrant green outfit with a yellow pointed hood, perched atop a red toadstool mushroom adorned with white polka dots.
The pairing of an elf on a mushroom is a traditional European holiday symbol representing good luck, fortune, and woodland magic, inspired by historic German and Alpine folklore celebrated in Radko’s vintage glass designs.
The red and white mushroom is a “lucky mushroom.”
Finding one in winter forests is rare and considered a sign of blessings, protection, and prosperity. In folklore, elves and gnomes are mythical caretakers of nature and guardians of hidden forest treasures.
Sitting atop a mushroom, the elf symbolizes good fortune, adding holiday whimsy and natural charm to the home. Historically, families hid the lucky mushroom ornament deep within the Christmas and the first person to spot its bright cap on Christmas morning was believed to be blessed with a year of great fortune.
