This ornament was produced as a limited-edition event for the 2000 holiday season.
It was sold specifically in conjunction with Macy's annual holiday spectacular and flagship event in New York City that year.
The Macy's steam engine design, the cursive Macy's in gold glitter inside the billowing mercury glass steam cloud was a signature design hallmark of this specific 2001 series.
It was designed to celebrate the nostalgic imagery of the early 20th century locomotives delivering holiday joy and parcels to the city.
Macy's commissioned this special piece using traditional European style molded mercury glass, rich hand painted metallic lacquers and heavy gold glitter piping chosen explicitly to give it a high end feel of an antique heirloom.
