This pair of ginger jar lamps shares a stately, baluster silhouette, with broad shoulders that taper gently to a flared foot, a wide flanged neck, and a domed, lidded cap that gives each body the classic temple-jar profile. Each jar is hand-painted in a bold, brushy, Cizhou-inspired manner, with large, stylized peony blossoms, fan-shaped leaves, and looping scrolls reserved in creamy white against a ground of chocolate brown, smoky olive, and soft slate gray. The brushwork is confident and slightly irregular, with visible stroke direction, pooled glaze, and drips that give every surface a spontaneous, artisanal quality. Subtle differences in tone and motif distinguish the two jars, one leaning warmer and browner, the other cooler and grayer, so the pair reads as companionable rather than identical. The glaze is glossy and richly layered, with a pale celadon-white band at the foot and shoulder that frames the decoration. Each jar rests on a dark, stepped, circular wooden base and is topped with polished brass hardware, including a slender neck, harp holder, and socket, which add a bright, warm contrast to the earthy ceramic.
Place these lamps on a console, sideboard, or nightstand, or flank a sofa or bed, where they complement Chinoiserie, Hollywood Regency, Traditional, Transitional, and Eclectic interiors. Wipe the glaze gently with a soft, damp cloth, polish the brass with a dry cloth, and keep the wooden bases away from moisture. Have the wiring checked by a licensed electrician before use. Each lamp measures 12.25 inches (311 mm) wide, 12.25 inches (311 mm) deep, and 28.75 inches (730 mm) high. The pair is in very good condition, with a rich glaze patina, minor surface wear, and no visible chips or cracks. Secure this commanding pair today.
