This exquisite vintage wooden box is a beautiful representation of traditional Asian craftsmanship. Crafted from rich, dark Zitan (red sandalwood), the rectangular chest features a classic beveled lid adorned with intricate mother-of-pearl (nacre) inlay.
The delicate shell marquetry depicts a vivid scene of a colorful magpie perched on a blossoming plum branch, accompanied by traditional calligraphy. This motif, often known as "Magpie on Plum Branch," is a classic symbol of joy and good fortune in Asian culture. The box is finished with a classic circular brass lock plate on the front.
It operates smoothly and offers ample storage space, making it an ideal keepsake box for jewelry, letters, or small treasures. It also serves as an exquisite decorative accent for a desk, dresser, or console table.
