A gorgeous pair of 1930s Portieux Vallerysthal French opaline wine glasses in the most wonderful turquoise blue. With their softly rounded bowls, sculptural knopped stems and flared feet, these have that unmistakable combination of elegance and whimsy that makes vintage French opaline glass so irresistible.
Best of all, both glasses retain their original round “P.V. France” paper labels—an especially lovely find on pieces of this age.
At approximately 4.5 in. high, these correspond to the wine-glass size in the P.V. stemware family. Their luminous turquoise opaline glass has a beautiful soft glow when held to the light, with subtle variations between the two glasses that are characteristic of vintage, handblown glass.
Portieux Vallerysthal has a long and fascinating history in French glassmaking. The Portieux glassworks traces its origins to the early 18th century in the Vosges, while Vallerysthal began glass production in Lorraine in 1836. The two historic glassworks were later joined, producing an extraordinary range of decorative and table glass for the French market.
Mix, match and collect! A smaller pair of coordinating turquoise Portieux Vallerysthal liqueur glasses is also available at Curated by Ms. H., with additional turquoise and white opaline stemware coming soon.
